Following Thru Hikers

I’m getting pretty psyched about going back to hike again.  It’s been a while and hitting the trail will be nice.  I’ll be going back to Duncannon to start off right where I left off last March.

Watching Vlogs has kept me in touch with the trail.  The two I’ve been following are Darwin on the Trail (https://darwinonthetrail.com) and Homemade Wanderlust (homemadewanderlust.com).    Darwin and Dixie are both AT thru hikers and are currently out on the PCT (Pacific Coast Trail) and CDT (Continental Divide Trail) respectively.  I met Dixie in Vermont when I was hiking the AT in 2015.

Check out their YouTube channels (search for Darwin on the Trail and Homemade Wanderlust on YouTube).  Both are about 2 weeks into thru hikes and are hiking strong.

I also checked the weather for when I start and it’s FABULOUS!  I’ve typically started in extreme hot, cold or pouring rain.  Here’s the Wunderground prediction for central PA in one week when I start:

Weather

Goal for this hike:   Hike strong and don’t let adversity set me back.

I’ll be blogging daily starting next Tuesday from the AT in PA.

PS – It’s raining this week so there should be water. That’s of utmost importance.

Triple Crowners

I found this picture today in Wildcat’s trail journal from 2105.  I was hiking with Wildcat in Vermont and we ran into Dixie hiking NOBO on her AT thru-hike.  She finished that and is now on the CDT after hiking the PCT last year.

This is a picture of a “veteran” triple crowner and a soon-to-be “new” triple crowner.  That’s cool.  🙂  (Dixie now supports her hiking with VLOGing.  homemadewanderlust.com)

I’m looking forward to hiking again; Rocksylvania in late June…

Thinking about water…

I’ve been working on my plan for Duncannon to Delaware Water Gap hike in June-July. There are long stretches without water sources 💦 and it should be hotter than stink. 🌞

I’ll be hoping for some rain ☔️…

Springer Mountain

I had the opportunity to visit the southern terminus of the AT last weekend while in north Georgia.  It was cold and rainy but there were lots of newbie thru-hikers there.  I met Spice and Teacher 👩‍🏫 among others.  I’ll be in PA in July and it would be cool to see them there after they hike more than half the trail.

Today’s quote is “Oh shit, is this the summit?” – Spice, AT thru-hiker.
