So what’s a slackpacker?  Well, there’s lots that qualifies.  Low daily  mileage, not carrying your pack, or a slower pace would all qualify.  For me, it’s about hiking “my own hike” and taking the time to enjoy the scenery.   Slackpacker.com

And a lasher?  That’s easy:  Long Ass Section HikER.  I don’t have the time to do the entire A.T. in one hike, but I can do it over several summers.  The purist thru hikers may scoff at this but it really is about hiking “my own hike.”   Laughing Dog, LASHER

In 2015 when I met thru-hikers on the trail I introduced myself as “Puffin the 500 mile Flip-Flopping Lasher.”  Everyone immediately understood exactly what I was doing and the most common response I got was, “cool.”  In 2016 it’s going to be “Puffin the 1,000 mile Flip-Flopping Lasher.”
